HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I wish everyone a very safe and happy Halloween! I did have some leaders and enders on my sew day that helped me get some small gifts done (a mess of mug rugs). I have completed the last two mug rugs and I will post them when the time is right. Novembers will be later this week and then Decembers will be in December. I do believe that January marks when I accidentally started the year of mug rugs. I didn't make a January mug rug just that when I made the first one so I do believe I will make a more winter type mug rug and then I am thinking of making another year and have already started choosing fabrics and layouts for another year in mug rugs I don't know what I will do with this new set I do believe it would make a great gift. Something to think about as always. Anyhow, Happy stitching!

That makes 12 hours!

When I put the top on the carpet to take the picture you couldn't see the border because it matched the carpet perfectly (lol). So I got a blanket to put under it so you could see the border, well I do believe I will have to see if I have some red fabric in my stash to put a second border on because that red really finishes this quilt nicely. One of those discovery moments that is unexpected but, wow what a huge difference!
I must say I have had a fabulous day and I needed this I was feeling blue at the beginning of the week this day really perked me up. I listened to Christmas music all day while sewing. When there was a hiccup I rolled with them and finished ( almost ) a whole quilt top. It isn't as dark as I thought it would be it looks nice and cheerful. The day was very dreary outside but I am very warm now. So if anyone is ever really down spend a day quilting. Happy stitching!

Here they all are!

Well what do you think? To make a decision about moving them into different positions but that would take way to long. Just get them sewn together and try to finish.

Hurray I Did It!

This is the last block I finished, I will adjust the right side it is a little off but for now its break for dinner and then try to get this in a setting. At any rate it has been a very good sewing day. Be back in a while.

Almost Done!

Hurray the string block, just had to get it right, looks like the Paddle Wheel block from Scrap-Basket Sensations.
The disappearing nine patch what a great easy block I hope it fits in with the other blocks. I have one more block to do and then its break for dinner then put them in a setting. I do believe I will have a top by the end of the day and get the quilt sandwiched but that will be all I do for the day and then Sunday I will get to the quilting (hopefully) stitching in front of a game sounds great. Keep stitching!

Let's Keep Stitching!

Okay a little coffee and chocolate can do wonders, plus the bus was late. When faced with set backs one should take into account what they know and remember the KISS method. I have made cuts for a disappearing nine patch and I will try the string block again by adding a strip that should make it 12 inches.
I will keep on stitching.

Its Raining!

This proved to be very easy even though I had to correct my mistakes like cut more squares to finish and un-do the stitching. This is Lover's Knot and I don't know where I got the pattern.
This is another reject that didn't turn out the right size.
This is the string block that wasn't okay. I need to get my child from the bus because it is raining. So how about a coffee break. I will be back in a while.

Wow that took longer but two more!

This is the Paddle Wheel block from "Scrap-Basket Sensation" I added another strip so it would make a 12 inch block I think with the waist I might get another block.
To keep things simple and make more progress I made a quick nine patch, already had the squares cut so no trouble there. I have had to re-thread the machine a few times dog gone it. I will need to change the bobbin sometime it will run out but I am ready. Just keep stitching!

This is a sweet block!

I like this block the points aren't all well defined but good points and much easier than I thought it would be.
That makes 6 blocks so far half way done with the blocks. COOL!

First reject!

I have had a nice lunch and break, but I have had a set back. The string block isn't working out to 12 inches. I was afraid that it wouldn't so I do have it an extra block to take its place its called triangle magic from quiltersnewletter.com lots of triangles so I will get a few more blocks done and then make that one. At least I was prepared for the possibility. Pictures in a while.

Two more and break for lunch!

This is the Woven Ribbons from Quilters Cache, the trick with this is to pay attention to the placement of the coordinating fabric but very easy.
Here is the Scrap Squares also from Quilters Cache, this is one that needs attention to your seams or the cutting is off by 1/8 of an inch I also thought this one was a little dark. Anyhow, I have started on the strings block but I will be breaking for lunch and be back in an hour. Take time to hydrate, and eat a good meal.

Two more so far so good!

I do love making the Jacobs Ladder even though that isn't the title in "Cut the Scraps" this for me is an easy block one that I know by heart.
Here is the "Friendship Scrap Block" I had to cut extra triangles (whoops) to get this one together I like what I chose and no the points don't all match but it is square.

Here is the snowball, with another block almost done.

I hope the blocks I have chosen aren't too dark, we shall see. Almost done with another.

Hurray for a sew day!

My computer is being slow today. I am getting started, I have kept the blocks fairly simple I didn't want to undermine myself by using blocks with lots of pieces. The list is...
Scrappy Trails from "Cut the Scraps"
Winged Four Patch from Quilters Cache
Wheel of Time , Scrap Squares, Lovers Knot, Friendship Scrap Block, Oh Susannah, and Woven Ribbons are also from Quilters Cache
Snowball Block, and A Different Eight Patch might be on Quilters Cache or just various places on the web I have the patterns on a flash drive
Paddle Wheel from "Scrap Basket Sensations" and a String Block from Bonnie Hunters website that I am sure will work. I will be sending a picture of finished blocks on the hour as best I can so here I go.

CELEBRATION !!! One whole year!

As of today I will have kept this blog for one whole year. HURRAY ! I did decide to have a 12 hour sew day this Friday (12 months in a year idea). I have been busy cutting all the pieces for each block, to be already for the day. I will begin this Friday Oct. 28 TH at 8 AM after a good breakfast and coffee, with a break for lunch. I will of course put a crock pot dinner on so that my duties will not be neglected and I will have finished any other chores the day before. (Thursday)
I have chosen a very random bunch of blocks from various sources, all 12 inch finished. I love a scrappy quilt so this will be scrappy, the majority of the fabric came from my stash. I bought the batting, and backing and a few fat quarters. I will be trying to complete the entire quilt in the 12 hours if not, I at least hope to have it sandwiched by the end of the day and take the weekend to finish. I would like to give the quilt as a gift to a good friend however if the quality and colors are like yuck then I have no idea what I will do with the thing. I did my best to not be over compulsive when cutting the fabric. Either way this should be a very fun day. I will post my progress on the hour. So far no one has wanted to join me which is fine, no pressure. Any way this is my first attempt at this kinda thing, I am prepared to learn and be grateful for the experience. Happy stitching!

October's mug rug !

Even though this mug rug is crooked (can't make one straight) I love what I did, and I think this is darling.
I will be trying next month to get both of the mug rugs done because as we all know the holiday's are crazy. So plans are in the making, there is something like 70 something days left until Christmas. Happy Stitching!

Charity quilt !

I'm helping the vice pres. of our guild make a few quilts to donate to the local cancer patient facility. So I started with these cute colors.
I cut 4 1/4 inch squares and 3 1/4 inch strips. From the fat quarters this was totally easy a quick.
I had decided to use a half log cabin configuration if that translates. ( I'm not a savvy about the lingo as others.)
I have 12, 9 3/4 inch squares and that should be a good size top. Which I will put together in the next few days and show you how it turned out. Any how that will make two charity quilts that I will have finished or helped to finish in the year, hurray for me. Happy stitching!

I did my homework!

I got this a while ago from scrapquilts.com titled not so much of a trick, I did all the cutting before I started sewing, and from start to finish it took me 20 minutes. Now I just need to make a for sure choice to have a sew day where I make 12, 12 inch blocks in 12 hours, or a show and tell a 12 of 12 quilting related stuff. I think the sew day is better. Of course anyone can join me if they want to. I will be choosing 12, 12 inch blocks and then I will choose fabrics from my stash and I will do all the cutting before I start. I will start Oct. 28, 2011 ( that is a Friday) at 8 AM going until 8 PM for an entire day of stitching. To really be an over achiever I will have batting, backing, and borders, as well as extra cuts if I have time. If I get that far then good for me but I think by the end of the day I will at least have a top and maybe by the end of that weekend a whole quilt. Cool ! Let me know if I have any joiners?? No guilt trips no making fun of color choices or points not matching this is your quilt do what you want with it, its a lets have fun day doing what we love to do. Happy stitching!

Here's an idea!

As I have blogged about the last time, I would like to try and do something to celebrate my one year anniversary of having this blog site. I first made a list which had 12 things with 12 things example 12 tools, 12 favorite blocks, 12 colors, 12 UFOs,12 gift ideas, anyway you get the idea.  I still might do that. But today I wondered about a 12 hour sew-in. Starting from like 8 AM until 8 PM sew 12, 12 inch blocks and put them together. There would need to be some planning and some ahead of time work, like choosing all the blocks, all the colors, and cut all the pieces before hand. I should try out a block to see how long I take to make a block that size. I will do some checking.
